I have resided in West Wawanosh all my life with the exception of my university years and the first 10 years of my career. My roots run deep as our farm has been in the family since 1873. My wife Amy and I have three teenage boys who attend F.E.Madill in Wingham.
I have been a Certified General Accountant with Takalo & Burt Chartered Accountants in Goderich for 17 years. After graduating with a B.Sc. (Agr.) I worked eleven years with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Farm Credit Canada. These positions have given me the opportunity to work with many members of the public on both an individual and group basis.
Our farm is just north of St. Helens and I have operated it since 1979.
Before amalgamation I served West Wawanosh for one term as councillor and one term as reeve. I am the current president (second term) of the Lucknow District Co-op and have been on the board for six years. In the past I was a 4-H leader and a member of the Optimist Club of Lucknow and District, serving as an officer in both. I am a member of the Lucknow United Church and have served on the Board of Stewards. Curling is my main recreational activity.
I have three simple objectives in regard to our municipality:
Council must never forget that it is entrusted to manage our finances in a manner that provides appropriate services to the municipality in the most efficient manner possible.
Council should be a good listener and be open to alternatives in the decision making process. The ultimate goal is to produce solutions in the best interest of the broad community.
I am reminded of this everyday as at least one of our sons hope to live and work here. We must create the type of community that will give young people opportunities to thrive without moving away.
If elected as councillor from Wawanosh I pledge to keep these objectives in mind as council does it work. I believe that council has great potential if it works as a team and never forgets who it is serving -- the electorate of the township.
